The aim of the Great Tower project is to evoke the atmospheric interiors of King Henry II’s medieval royal court, creating an immersive world in which the visitor stands at the centre of the experience.
Backed by meticulous research, compelling evidence and an army of skilled craftsmen who have re-created the lavish interiors and stunning furnishings on many intricate objects.
The wall hanging “tapestries” were painted by Kit and Meg Surrey. The project is considered the most ambitious attempt to re-create a medieval palace in more than a century.
The king’s hall, king’s chamber, guest hall, guest chamber, privy kitchen and armoury have been furnished to evoke their original appearance.
