Victoria & Albert Museum, British Galleries
The British Galleries were opened in 2001 to a great reception. They bring together some of the finest interiors, furniture and objects of the past 300 years. Hare & Humphreys were proud to restore the interior design exhibits, and to introduce the newly designed display scheme
Under the direction of the curating team, we applied rich colours to the display walls, restored and retouched the rooms sets. Traditional distemper was used for the Lee Priory parlour, giving a soft organic feel to the walls. The refurbishment of the British Galleries is one of the largest and most exciting projects the V&A has ever undertaken. The world’s most important collection of British art and design will be redisplayed in a new and glorious setting. Fifteen galleries will house, in an area of about 3000 m2 , some 3000 exceptional pieces of decorative and fine art spanning the four centuries, 1500-1900.
