St Edmundsbury Cathedral

Following a bequest by the architect Stephen Dykes-Bower, the chapter of St Edmundsbury have introduced a radical new feature to the interior of the cathedral, using centuries-old materials and techniques.

The ceiling was constructed in English Oak and hoisted up 150ft to the full height of the tower.

Hare & Humphreys painted the ceiling design in three colours of lead paint, before adding the gilding in 24ct gold. We also hand-painted 42 coats of arms for the Diocese of the church of England, all in heraldic colours.
