Summer Internships in Conservation

Posted on Wednesday 03 October 2012

This summer Hare and Humphreys organized our first two conservation internships for a project at the Cottier Theatre in Glasgow.  Our interns were both graduating students; Danielle Jenkinson completing an MA in the Conservation of Historic Objects at th University of Lincoln and Corrie Tubman completing an MA in the Conservation of Fine Art (Easel Paintings) at the University of Northumbria.

Such internships offer invaluable experience in working for a commercial company and give an opportunity to build on and expand conservation skills.  Both interns were involved in a number of aspects of the project, the majority of their time was spent on practical aspects, but two days a weeks was set aside for documentation and compilation of the conservation report. Overall, their contribution to the project was significant and we were extremely pleased to have them on board.

As a company we found that we can a lot learn from students straight out of the academic arena as well as share our own experience and knowledge. And importantly having a team made up of people with different skills and levels of practical experience was an exciting one to be a part of.  These won’t be the last internships that we run.
