New life brought back to an old master after damaged in transit
Posted on Tuesday 17 November 2015
Damaged in transit, this antique oil on paper, which was then attached to canvas, was brought to the attention of our conservation team. The damage was extensive, including tears in the paper, poor over-painting and a yellowed 20th century varnish layer. The client was concerned that the painting was irreparably disfigured. Our conservation team’s results exceeded the clients expectations and in removing the discoloured varnish revealed the painting as it was originally intended to be seen. A conservation grade varnish that is resistant to future yellowing then replaced the discoloured varnish layer.
