Bentley Priory Museum Royal Opening

Posted on Thursday 12 September 2013

Veterans and the Battle of Britain Trust team were joined by the restoration project team to open the new Bentley Priory Museum at Stanmore, North London, with a tour of the museum, music by the Central RAF band and fly-past of spitfires

Hare & Humphreys were proud to be awarded the contract for the redecoration of the interior of the museum, which included the conservation of two historic ceilings, redecoration and gilding of the impressive Dome Room, and  a new artwork-  the 'Battle of Britain Sky", a 15m representation of the fine sky and squadron of aircraft accurate to the finest detail.

The approach to the restoration was developed during ongoing dialogue with Architect Natasha Brown and consultant Patrick Baty, and sought to re-present the interiors in an appropriate manner both for the historic Soane building but also as a vibrant museum. This required both traditional skills and modern techniques by the multi-disciplinary decoration, arts and conservation team.

Director Cathy Littlejohn and Foreman Tony Tyler were invited to take part in the event, which included the unveiling of the Dowding bust by Prince Charles, restored by Hare & Humphreys during the contract, and a tour of the fine rooms. The museum will be openend to the public in January 2014.
